Guide 2 of 7

Using your system

Choosing a water setting, which of the five types are for drinking, and the everyday sequence from tap to glass.

The everyday sequence

Operation is short, and the same every time. The steps below are the K8's, taken from its operation manual; other models follow the same shape with their own panel.

  • Move the diverter lever on the tap to the processed-water position.
  • Touch the water you want on the home screen.
  • Open the faucet — processed water is discharged from the flexible pipe.
  • Close the faucet to stop.
  • Let the automatic cleaning cycle finish, and do not use the water it discharges.

What is on the K8's panel

The K8's home screen carries six settings, and the labels are worth learning because they are not always what people assume. The Kangen tiles read pH 8.5, pH 9.0 and pH 9.5. Clean Water is pH 7.0. Beauty Water is pH 6.0, and is not for drinking. Strong Acidic Water is pH 2.5, and is not for drinking. There is no Strong Kangen button on the K8.

Strong Kangen Water is produced at the pH 2.5 setting: it leaves the flexible pipe at the same moment Strong Acidic Water leaves the secondary pipe. Neither is for drinking. All of this is confirmed against the K8 operation manual.

Other models have their own panels and their own labels. Read the settings off your own unit rather than from another machine's documentation.

Which types are for drinking

Two of the five types are drinking water and three are not. This site labels them every time they appear, and so should you when someone else in the household reaches for a glass.

  • Kangen Water, pH 8.5 – 9.5 — for drinking and cooking
  • Clean Water, pH 7.0 — for drinking
  • Strong Kangen Water, pH 11.0 — not for drinking; food preparation and cleaning
  • Beauty Water, pH 4.0 – 6.0 — not for drinking; external use
  • Strong Acidic Water, pH 2.7 — not for drinking; wiping down and cleaning

Strong Acidic Water needs the enhancer tank

Strong Acidic Water is not produced from tap water alone. On the K8 the electrolysis enhancer tank must be installed before the pH 2.5 setting can do its work — the manual is explicit about it. The Super 501 carries an electrolysis-enhancer tank built into the unit.

Neither Strong Acidic Water nor the Strong Kangen Water produced alongside it is for drinking.

Two habits worth keeping

Keep the feed water below 35 °C on the K8, and let the automatic cleaning cycle run to the end before using the machine again. Both come straight from the manual, and both cost nothing once they are habits.
