If you want to test what a wellness category is really claiming, look at the area where it has been studied most. For hydrogen water that is exercise — performance, fatigue and recovery in healthy adults — and the reason is practical rather than scientific: healthy volunteers are easier to recruit and the outcomes are measurable in a lab.
So this is the strongest ground the category has. Here is what is actually on it.

What the meta-analyses concluded
Two systematic reviews with meta-analysis are the useful reference points here: one on molecular hydrogen supplementation and physical performance in healthy adults, and one on fatigue and aerobic capacity.
Their conclusions run in the same direction. There are signals worth investigating; the evidence base is limited by small samples, short interventions and heterogeneous protocols; and better-powered trials are needed before anything can be said with confidence. Neither review reports the kind of clear, replicated effect that would settle the question.
Why the protocol differences matter so much here
Pooling studies requires that they be comparable, and in this field they frequently are not. Trials differ in the dose of dissolved hydrogen, the delivery method, whether it was taken before or after exercise, over how many days, and in what was measured.

The practical question, for someone who trains
If you exercise seriously and are wondering whether to add hydrogen water, the honest ordering is worth stating, because it is not close.
An athlete already doing the first four well might reasonably try something with preliminary evidence, knowing it is preliminary. An athlete not doing them has a much larger and better-supported opportunity available for free.
One note for competitive athletes
Anyone competing under anti-doping rules should check anything they consume against their federation's guidance rather than an article. That is a matter for the governing body, and it is not a question a wellness publication should answer for you.
The summary
The best-studied area in this category has produced signals and no settled answer, from trials that reviewers describe as small, short and inconsistent in design. That is the honest state of it as things stand.
If somebody selling you a machine cites this literature as proof of recovery benefits, they have read the abstracts and not the limitations — and the six questions in reading a hydrogen water study will get you to the same conclusion in about two minutes.
